A Cheeky Purchase

Hello there lovelies, yesterday my mum had a meeting near Kingston Upon Thames, so I decided to go with her and do a little shopping. Kingston is a lovely market town, on the river (as the name suggests) and I had a little look around. There was a Space.NK and the assistants in there were much more friendly than the ones in the Soho branch I've been to recently, and I saw the Nuxe Rêve de Miel. It has so many rave reviews here in the bloggersphere and so I decided to pick it up.

It costs £9.50, but after a few uses yesterday I could tell the pot will last me for a very long time. It smells faintly of honey and is very thick, but keeps your lips hydrated for a really long time - I've glad I picked this up!

The Sunday Series #1

Hello there lovelies, today's post is a newbie here on Curly Cutie but needs a little explanation! Basically I haven't posted many Instagram pictures this week, so I had a little think about what to post instead. In the back of my mind was a comment on Twitter I read a few weeks ago about someone not liking 'week in pictures' posts - and I do like them, but I've got to thinking that if you wanted to follow my pictures, you could just follow me on Instagram. So with that in mind, I decided to start a new series of posts on Sundays, which will run in rotation: a non-beauty review (like a film or a play etc), a beauty wishlist, beauty/fashion favourites and an empties post. These may change, but there we go!

Today's post is the non-beauty review, and it is of the play 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.'

I went to see this on Friday night with my mum and my sister - I'd read the book but quite a few years ago and so only knew the basics of the plot. The play is about Christopher John Francis Boone, who discovers the dead body of his neighbour’s dog, Wellington, on the neighbour’s front lawn one evening and sets out to uncover the murderer. His investigation is at times aided, and at other times hampered, by the mild form of autism he lives with.

The set and lighting were amazing, with the cast able to draw on the floor and it show up on the back screen of the stage. The ensemble were brilliant, playing the roles of the different people Christopher meets in his investigation, and the use of physical theatre (when people use their bodies to represent something, like a door or a chair) was superb.

Luke Treadaway was simply superb as Christopher - you truly believed he was a 15 year-old boy with autism, rather than the 29 year-old actor he truly is. His performance alone was worth the money, and if you get the chance to see this play, you must go!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is on at the Apollo Theatre, by Piccadilly Circus.

NYC Day 3 (a.k.a New York Haul!)

Hi there lovelies, today is my last post about NYC *sob*. I loved it so much there, it was so different from what I expected but so amazing!

On Sunday we went shopping, starting off in Bloomingdale's then heading to Macy's, followed by a stroll on Fifth Avenue.

As it wasn't totally exciting, instead I thought I'd share what I bought instead!

Mac Brush Cleanser, Bumble & Bumble Gentle Shampoo and Super Rich Conditioner, Origins GinZing Moisturiser, Mac Paint Pot in Constructivist, Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Bikini-Tini, Mac Eye Shadow in Brulé, Nars And God Created the Woman Palette, which came with the Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eye Shadow Base and Eye Shader Brush.

Mac Paint Pot in Constructivist, Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Bikini-Tini and Mac Eye Shadow in Brulé.

Nars And God Created the Woman Palette
Top row, left to right: Alhambra, Bellisima and Kalahari
Bottom row, left to right: Galapagos, Coconut Grove and Night Clubbing

I got most of this (apart from the Mac products which I bought in Macy's) in Sephora - it's a bit like Space:NK. I LOVE SEPHORA, it's simply amazing and thank god we don't have one near me otherwise I would have no money. EVER.

Prom 2013!

Hello there lovelies, today's post is all about prom!  I thought I'd share some photos of my dress etc and give you some advice - most of you will probably already have had prom, but if you've got yours coming up either this year or in the future, I thought some tips might be useful for you!

I struggled to find a dress at first, however I hired mine from Wish Want Wear (find my dress here) for £55. I was so happy with it - it was very different to everyone else's and I know that if I bought a dress, then I would probably never wear it again. The dresses from WWW are all designer as well, so hiring this gave me the chance to wear a dress worth £375.

My clutch is from Accessorize (a good shout if you need a bag, although not everyone brought one at my prom.)

I also wore flat sandals - at first some of friends looked at me weirdly that I wasn't wearing heels, but by the end of the night everyone's feet were dying and I was still going strong! I knew I would look silly trying to walk around to sky-high heels, and this way I know I'll wear my shoes again.

I had my nails done in Jessica 'Sugar Coated Strawberry' - with my dress I needed a bright colour to stand out against it, and I had them done at a local beauty salon. I enjoyed having someone else do my nails as I'm a bit rubbish at them because I'm so impatient!

I also had my hair done at a local salon, and then when I got ready at a friend's house her older sister (thanks Molly!) curled my hair a little more.

I would say that getting ready at a friend's house makes all the difference - it makes you less nervous and enhances the girly experience of getting ready! I did have a date aswell, but all I'd say about that is make sure you go with someone (if you want to take someone, that is) that you're good friends with/that you're totally comfortable with.

I did my make-up myself - I went for a smokey eye with nude lips, all the products I used are listed below:

Face:

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer
Clarins Skin Illusion Natural Radiance Foundation SPF10 in 103 Ivory
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 01 Fair
Topshop Cream Blush in Head Over Heels
Mac Pearl Cream Colour Base (Highlighter)
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in 001 Transparent

Lips:

Nars Lipgloss in Sweet Revenge
Bobbi Brown Brightening Lip Gloss in Peach 3

Eyes:

Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
Mac Paint Pot in Constructivist
Mac Eye Shadows in All That Glitters (inner corner), Omega (middle third of my eyes), Satin Taupe (outer corners) and Carbon (eye liner)
Nars And God Created The Woman Palette, shade in the middle on the bottom row (I think it's Galapagos?) - mixed this with Mac Satin Taupe for my outer corners
Max Factor Max Effect Mono Eye Shadow in 02 Creme Champagne
Max Factor False Lash Effect and Masterpiece Max Mascaras, both in Black

Brushes:

Real Techniques Stippling Brush (for foundation), Blush Brush (for blush and powder) and Shading Brush (for concealer)
Topshop Eyes Brush (for applying eyeshadow)
Mac 217 brush (for blending eyeshadows), 239 brush (for applying eyeshadow) and 212 brush (for applying eyeliner)
Nars 3 Brush (for a little more blending - the key to a smokey eye!)

I had such a great time at prom!
