My final birthday
present this year was to visit Edinburgh with my family, unfortunately Pappa C
got gastroenteritis (really bad food poisoning) just before we went so he had to stay at home
L Onwards and
northwards, the rest of the clan (Holly, Mumma C and moi) took the train to
Edinburgh – although it took 5 hours or so it get there this flew by as I had
an English essay to do and ‘Love Actually’ to watch! (BEST. CHRISTMAS. FILM.
EVER.) After arriving and settling into our lush apartment in the centre of the
city (we stayed at the Chester Residence, check it out here:
www.chester-residence.com) on
Friday night we were ready to hit the town bright and early the next morning.
After my navigating skills somehow managed to get us to the bus stop, we hopped
on a sightseeing bus tour around the city enjoying Edinburgh from the comfort
of a warm vehicle. We got off to explore Edinburgh Castle and then we headed to
the Camera Obscura, which is a tower which had an optical device that
projects an image of its surroundings on a screen, and the four floors below
the camera had rooms full of optical illusions! It was an unexpected visit but
seriously worth it if you visit Edinburgh. After some retail therapy on Princes
Street and Grassmarket, we headed out for dinner at 21212, a Michelin-star
restaurant where the menu is structured with 2 options for starters, 1 soup,
two options for main course, 1 cheese board and 2 options for dessert –
therefore 21212. Mumma C did have some difficulties and earned some muppet
points from Holly and I when she tried to tell the taxi driver the name of the
restaurant – who knew one woman could find so many variations of the numbers 2
and 1! On Sunday we went on the Potter Trail (website here:
http://pottertrail.com) which was led by a
lovely girl called Becky – she was a great tour guide and the trail is a must
for all Potter fans (like me, obviously – Potter reference for you there!)
After that we headed to the Elephant House Café where J. K. Rowling wrote
some of the Harry Potter books, and it's really cool to nip to the loos to see the walls covered in messages from Potter fans. We preceded to indulge in a little more
retail therapy before getting the train home to our sick Pappa C. All in all I
had a great weekend and I loved Edinburgh - please enjoy my pictures below!
